The Love/Hate Mascara.

If you've read a couple of reviews of the L'Oréal Paris Miss Manga Mega Volume Mascara, you may be aware that it seems to have divided the beauty blogger world, so, naturally, I needed to try it out... for your benefit, of course.

The reason for the Marmite nature of this mascara is that it features a rather unique detail... its super flexible wand. I'd had a little play with the model of the wand at the L'Oréal Paris stand in Boots, but nothing prepared me for quite how bendy the wand was when applying the product. This flexibility is something of an advantage and a disadvantage.... but we'll come to that later. The brush is conically-shape, featuring short brushes to catch the smallest lashes at those tricky inner corner and lower lashes.

Whilst most seem to either really like or really dislike the wand, there's something else that baffled me, and that's the formula. You see, when I first opened the tube and gave the mascara a try, I was less than impressed with it. It is so very wet, and combined with that rather lithe wand, I had absolutely no control over the brush, nor the product distribution. The finished look? Well it glued all my lashes together into several sticky, messy clumps. It also took forever to dry, so would transfer a black smudge all over my eyelid as soon as I blinked... not cool.

I persevered, blotting the wand with a tissue to remove excess product... this helped only marginally, and still created slightly gloopy lashes, so I gave up and threw the mascara into my makeup drawer.

Two months on, I decided to give it another whirl... lo-and-behold the formula had dried out a lot, and that brush that was once something of a pain was now a total asset... with great ease, I was able to get the the brush nestled into the lash roots for extra lift, and could effortlessly create defined, separated lashes by wiggling the brush up through the lash lengths. I now love this mascara... who'd have thunk it?

I plumped for the waterproof which does not budge - great for when you're wearing it, not so great when you're trying to remove it... lucky, then, that I'll be telling you about a great product to take it off with later this week!

L'Oréal Paris Miss Manga Mega Volume Mascara is priced at £8.99 and available at Boots.

  1. This is pretty much exactly my experience with this mascara! I couldn't really get on with it at first, but once it dried out a bit, it's so much better. I find that to be the case with so many mascaras, and never get why brands make them so excessively wet in the first place!

  3. I've figured out too that the trick to wet mascaras is to just let it be for a while, and they work so much better later. Too bad it's close to their standard expiration date though..

  4. This has been the case for me with many mascaras - one to mention was the Falsies. When first bought, the consistency was so wet, it was difficult to not smudge it - but later it was the go-to mascara in my stash and I can now say, it was worth it!
