Every so often (usually once a month), my skin has a tendency to go a little haywire... and I'm sure it's the same for most of us girls.
When this happens though, I have a couple of products on reserve to get my skin back to its best....
Thorough cleansing is vital to calming down angry breakouts, and the Nivea Refreshing Facial Wash Gel is a new favourite of mine. I find foaming washes to dry my skin out (which aggravates blemishes), whereas gels cleanse without stripping away moisture. I massage a small amount of product into my skin along with some warm water, and remove with a damp flannel... if your base has SPF in its formula (like mine does), I'd advise you do this twice to remove every last trace of makeup.
I've already raved about La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo here - this product is seriously good at clearing up stubborn breakouts. I initially used this all over my skin, but now use it as a targeted treatment after toning (but before moisturiser) on problematic areas of my complexion, and have found it to clear up spots super quickly and effectively. Another great thing about this product is that it sinks right in, so can be used underneath makeup and no-one will be able to tell you're using it... promise.
Another product from the La Roche-Posay family, Effaclar A.I., is my spot treatment of choice when it comes to bedtime. I raved about this product in my August Favourites video, as I've found it to rapidly clear up blemishes without turning them into an dry, flaky mess (so much harder to cover up with concealer!). I like to apply a layer of this directly onto the spot... however, it dries leaving a white paste on the skin, making this product strictly one for the PM routine (...or when you don't plan on leaving the house for the day).
Alpha H Liquid Gold (review here) is something I normally use once a week, but when my complexion goes crazy, I up this to 2 or 3 times. This concentrated skin treatment contains glycolic acid, which encourages the skin to repair and renew itself, and leaves you with a fresh, radiant complexion... not only does it clear up spots quickly, it also works to reduce the hyperpigmentation that can be left behind long after a spot has gone.
My blemish-zapping mask of choice is the Origins Clear Improvement Mask. A full review will be coming very soon, but it contains a bevvy of blemish-fighting ingredients to draw out impurities from the skin and quickly eradicate breakouts... I find it particularly good for stopping cystic spots (you know the ones: big, sore and never, ever seem to come to a head) in their tracks.
