Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation.

A couple of months ago, I was on the hunt for a medium coverage foundation with a dewy finish... and I found it. I then promised to write about it... and I didn't. Woops.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation made its way into my makeup collection a good while back, and has quickly become my go-to base. Unlike most, I wasn't altogether crazy about the original Healthy Mix Foundation (which has since been reformulated), as it just didn't seem to sit right on my skin. However, I'd heard wonderful things about the serum version from Lisa Eldridge, who said this product was virtually invisible on the skin, but still gave good coverage... consider me sold.

First things first; the shade I ended up going for (56, Light Bronze) is actually a bit light for my skintone, however, the next shade up was a bit too dark... if you ever have this problem, going a bit lighter and warming your complexion up with blush and bronzer is always the way to go.

The consistency is incredibly runny and watery (much like its rumoured high end sister, Chanel Vitalumière Aqua), making it much easier to work into the skin - it really does melt right in, and leaves such a lovely, glowing finish - I just can't fault it.

Another wonderful thing about this foundation is the lack of SPF in its formula. Ever wondered why you look like you've got the dreaded "ghost face" in pictures from a night out? SPF creates a white cast on the skin when a flash is applied. Because of the fact Healthy Mix Serum Foundation is SPF free, I ended up wearing it to my parents' silver wedding anniversary party - if you'd like to see some photos of makeup look from the night click here.

The staying power is a little on the limited side... if you've got oily or combination skin, you may need to powder the centre of your face after a couple of hours, but I can normally get 6 - 8 hours wear before redness or pigmentation starts to peep through.

Due to its lack of SPF, I'm not wearing this foundation completely on its own day-to-day, and have been mixing it in with a little NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser (which contains SPF 30) now the sun is out to play, and this creates a gorgeous, fresh looking complexion - it's practically illegal to sport a matte face when it's this hot, I'll have you know...

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation is priced at £10.99 and available at ASOS

  1. At first I thought not having SPF was a bad thing then I realized its actually good because it regent one from being branded ghost face! Really like the review :) xxx

  3. I have been meaning to try this for ages but have not got around to it yet. Sounds like such a good drug store product x

  4. I love this product. I didn't have major high hopes, as had fallen out of love with high street foundations and turned to 'designer ones', however this has brought me back. I love the coverage, shade (53 for me), consistency and also smell! haha
I haven't worn mine much recently, I've turned to my Olay CC Cream as that has SPF in it.

  5. I've always been sceptical and thought this would make my skin look greasy but it sounds good!

  6. Can't believe i still havent tried a Bourjois foundation! I have heard such great things about them and apparently they are very similar to the Chanel foundations as the brands are closely linked :D

  7. I have tried the Healthy Mix foundation and had the same problem as you, it just didn't seem to look or sit right :/ I have been wanting to try this for a while and this review definitely makes me want to try it more, although I have quite oily skin so I am not sure whether I would get on with this :/ Great review, thanks for posting!x

  8. I've always heard its a really great foundation, never heard it sat kind of odd on the skin before! But I am actually not a fan of the fact that it doesnt have SPF - important during the summertime!

    1. Hi Bree - I don't wear this on its own in the day, especially now its so sunny. I will wear SPF underneath or mix it in with the NARS tinted moisturiser which has SPF 30 in it xx
