Friday Favourites: Health Special.

Happy Friday, ladies!

My January detox didn't exactly go to plan - after spending most of December rummaging through boxes of Quality Street or devouring a mince pie or three in front of the television, I've found it so difficult to get back into eating sensibly and exercising regularly.

I'm hearing similar worries from friends and other bloggers, so have decided to get us all motivated and make this week's Friday Favourites a healthy living special!

Now I'm on the wards, it's become far too easy to grab a chocolate bar for a quick sugar fix between teaching, or tell myself I'm far too tired and have a lazy, non-productive evening instead of nipping to the gym.

Enough's enough. Now it's February, it's about time to get exercising and eating properly.

For me, this change isn't really about losing weight (if you'd like to lose a few pounds, check out my tips here), it's about feeling good, and we all know that comes from regular exercise and good diet!

Favourite Fact:

I tried to kick sugar last week and gave up 5 days in - fail! Laboratory studies have shown rats will consistently choose to consume sugar over cocaine, so this stuff is seriously addictive! If you're a sugar addict like me, it's probably time to think about going completely cold turkey.

Favourite Gym-spiration:

Kate Hudson got into seriously good shape for her role in Glee - there are no words that do her abs justice.

Favourite Metabolism Booster:

Rev up your metabolism by adding ice to your water - apparently, J. Lo swears by this tip!

Favourite Smoothie:

With many ladies in the midst of a good ol' health kick, this yummy smoothie quickly gets in 2 of your 5 a day and is jam-packed with more antioxidants than you could shake a stick at.

Favourite Snack:

Not only has consumption of almonds been linked to successful weight loss, they have a host of hair-and-skin friendly goodies. It's a great idea to keep a small pack in your handbag for when you get a mid-afternoon slump and it becomes oh so tempting to reach for the chocolate...
