Polka Dotty About You.

Since starting University nearly three years ago, my clothing collection has grown at an alarming rate ... much to the chagrin of my parents, who despair each time my credit card bill comes through the post.
This annual spurt in the number of clothes I own means at the end of the academic year, I am forced to carry out a thorough wardrobe clearout to make room for my new threads. This year was no exception... although I've only done half of my wardrobe space, I've had a very shocking realisation.

I have developed an addiction to polka dot clothing.

Skirts, blouses and oh so many dresses all printed with ditsy dots.... I lost count of exactly how many items, but dear Lord, it was a lot.

But I console myself, and my poor parents, with the fact that the money spent on these pieces was not a waste (unlike the stupid amount I spent on some hideous bright pink cargo trousers when I was 14... *shudder*).
Polka dots are a huge trend for this year, and were spotted on the Fall/Winter 2011-2012 catwalks at Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent and Marc Jacobs- but, in my opinion, they are a fashionable and timeless trend that spans the decades- just take a look at Audrey Hepburn in some fabulous polka dot shorts...

To celebrate this wonderful trend, I've picked five adorable polka-dot printed pieces for you to fawn over,  in the hope you will come to love this print as much as I do!

1. The Polka Dot Blouse

A polka dot shirt is a wardrobe staple, and I just adore this one from ASOS. Wear it during the day with a pair of light-wash jeans and wedges, or give it some edge for a night-out with some black leather-look leggings. It'd also be great for work tucked into a plain pencil-skirt!
One shirt, three looks (I love fashion maths).

2. The Polka Dot Dress

This yellow skater dress is beautiful - the colour makes it perfect for summer, and it can be taken right through the autumn/winter season by layering with some boots, black tights and chunky knitwear. The shape makes it perfect for girls with curves thanks to some clever tailoring to give a lovely nipped-in waist.

3. The Polka Dot Shorts

These Missguided hotpants are certainly a daring choice - it's key to keep this look balanced so make sure the shirt you choose is loose-fitting and your cleavage is covered, as the shorts are pretty tight and show a heck of a lot of leg!

4. The Polka Dot Clutch

You can re-invent an evening dress with this fun clutch bag - the most chic choice would be a classic little black dress with some black heels, monochrome never goes out of style!

5. The Polka Dot Shoes

I want these shoes - they are so incredibly cute plus are an absolute steal (they were originally £55.00)! They'd look great with some white skinny jeans and a plain vest during the day, or, for a more bold look, with a bright red dress (and some killer red lipstick - a post on which is coming very soon!) for night-time.

So there you have it - five items I'm absolutely dotty about and I hope you are too... now I think it's about time I sorted through the other half of my wardrobe to maybe make some space for all a couple of these pieces...!
