When I hit the ripe old-age of 21 last year, I decided it was time to find myself a signature scent... this decision was inspired by my gorgeous mother, who has religiously used the same single perfume for years. Whenever I smell it, it makes me think of her - call me old-fashioned, but I like a lady who can be told apart by her fragrance!
I must have owned close to a hundred different perfumes over the years, so you would have thought I was left with a potentially tough choice when it came to picking just one...
The perfume I (swiftly) decided on was actually one of the first few fragrances I owned - it gets me a lot of compliments when I'm out and about, and it isn't particularly well-known (so all the better for me, really!):
I use MyQueen by Alexander McQueen and adore everything about it - the scent has base-notes of iris that are beautifully complimented by notes of almond, vanilla and cedar. I love quirky packaging (if you haven't already picked up on it from my previous posts!) and that purple bottle just stands out a mile from every other perfume I've owned! Unfortunately, MyQueen has been discontinued from stores, which means once internet stocks run out, I'll be forced to choose another perfume for myself, *sniff.*
For you girls that haven't found your own distinct fragrance, here are a few suggestions... I've deliberately chosen somewhat floral scents that would be perfect for the summer!
Euphoria is an oriental, musky scent with notes of black orchid and pomegranate. It was very much between MyQueen and this perfume when it came to picking my signature scent - the Euphoria bottle is apparently meant to represent an orchid in bloom, but I always found it a little too space-age and bulky for my liking... but, hey, that's just me being incredibly fussy - the scent itself is wonderful!
I owned this perfume when I was sixteen and always thought that the pink bottle and floral scent (using a blend of no less than five flowers) were the epitome of girliness. Very Irresistible was said to be emblematic of the one and only Audrey Hepburn, and who wouldn't want to be as graceful as her?!
I'm normally a bit of a snob when it comes to fragrances, and will automatically turn my nose up if I see a famous person's name emblazoned across a perfume bottle, as generally they're horribly cheap-smelling - this fragrance, in fact, all of the SJP range, is an exception to the rule, as it smells so darned good! It's a very sophisticated, feminine fragrance without being too floral (it has notes of orchid and apple martini).
This fragrance has a clever blend of scents such as raspberry, mandarin, ginger and freesia to name but a few. It's a very distinct fragrance but I think the majority of ladies would love it, as it manages to be fruity, floral, spicy and woody so appeals to many different tastes (or rather, smells). I love the incredibly chic gold and purple glass bottle - it always looked so fabulous on my perfume shelf!
I seriously disliked this perfume when I first smelt it about five years ago, but was given a sample recently and absolutely loved it second-time round! The combination of notes is a seemingly odd one, and includes coriander (cilantro), pure saffron oil and amber, but they do work together and create one of the most unique fragrances I've ever smelt - I would say Agent Provocateur is a bit of an acquired taste, and one of those perfumes you either really like, or really, really don't.
So there you have it, five gorgeous fragrances, each of which would make a great choice for your very own signature scent!
